Cooper's Hawk Hunting In My Yard

October 24th, 2019

I was outside in my backyard with my video camera that I had not used in awhile. Suddenly, from where I was standing, I saw something moving around at the far right corner of my front yard. As I started approaching, I realized it was a bird on the ground. From my vantage point, I thought for a moment "vulture"...But as I got close, even better...a hawk...A Cooper's Hawk. Now, I do not know my species of hawks..I was corrected on the type of hawk that it was and corrected my mistake. However, what I can do is photograph or video nature when given the chance to do so.

I was really amazed at how well this hawk was able to fly through all of the trees and miss all of the wires to capture the target which was a squirrel. The hawk let me get in close but I put my 25X optical zoom lens to good use.

Here is the video I captured:

George L Smith State Park Twin City, Georgia

October 24th, 2019

George L Smith State Park located in Twin City, Georgia has the most amazing lake I have ever seen. The wildlife and the water are fantastic. So, if you are into RVing or tent camping and you want to get away from it all then you need to checkout this state park.

The lake is massive and what grows out of this lake is a vast amount of cypress trees. While I was there, I created a video of the lake and its cypress trees which spreads throughout this body of water.

If you are into fishing, bring your gear. Crappie, bass, and brim are the catch. Don't forget canoeing and kayaking. You will want to bring the entire family on a paddling trip through the cypress trees.

This time of year in the fall is spectacular. the air is cool and the leaves are changing. Great time to tent camp for sure and get wildlife photos that you will never forget.

Check out the video I created here:

Anastasia Island In St. Augustine, Florida

June 12th, 2019

Recently, my wife and I took a nice trip to Anastasia Island State Park, meeting up with other members of family. If you have never been, I recommend this park. The state park is located near beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. Camping is one of the best activities of getting outdoors for the entire family. It is a great experience for all. Whether you are tent camping or prefer an RV, this campground is located near the ocean. Now, we tent camped in Mid May and the temperature was perfect. It is really starting to heat up so tent camping this time of year may not be the best idea. However, RVing is always the better option during the summer months in Florida and in the Southeastern United States. The water around St.Augustine is absolutely amazing to be near and of course in. The east coast of Florida and its beaches are one of the best in the country. Camping is also an affordable way to travel for lodging expenses if you are going to stay for a period of time. Fishing and kayaking spots abound in the St. Augustine area.

If camping is not your thing, try staying in a hotel or bed and breakfast in old town. Less than ten minutes from Anastasia Island is the old town of St. Augustine. Plenty to do in the old town. St. Augustine was founded in 1565 and is the oldest city in the United States. Across the Bridge Of Lions, you will begin to see the old town with plenty to do. If you enjoy shopping, there are plenty of shops along the brick paved roads. Plenty of places to eat as well, or just walking through the old town admiring the scenery.

I recommend making this a destination for you and your family when it comes time for travel planning. If you are going to tent camp, go in late fall and early spring when the temperature is perfect!

Tomoka State Park Ormond Beach, Florida

June 11th, 2019

On January 1st, 2019, my wife and I went on another tent camping adventure in Tomoka State Park which is located in Ormond Beach Florida with Daytona Beach only a few minutes on highway A1A.

This is an excellent campground for tent or RVing for the entire family. This can save considerably on lodging costs which can allow you to extend your visit. If you love the beach, there is nothing like the Florida beaches on the East Coast. There is plenty of beach access within minutes of the State Park.

If you enjoy fishing, the state park has the Tomoka River that runs through the park which is fed by the Atlantic. Because of the salt water, there is a variety of fish in the river. The best choice of bait is live bait (shrimp, finger mullet, mud minnows, and sand fleas).

There are plenty of restaurants in the Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach area. But the best part of camping, is bringing your own food and having a cookout. There is nothing like it and it tastes good!

Jekyll Island Georgia

June 11th, 2019

If you have never been to Jekyll Island, Georgia you should add that to your list of travel destinations. Located in Southeast Georgia in Glynn County, Jekyll Island is actually a state park. There are residents who live on Jekyll Island. Jekyll Island has become a popular tourist destination for quite sometime.

Within the past 10 years, Jekyll Island has seen some changes. New convention center and new hotels have improved the landscape of the island.

If you are looking to get away from the hotel scene, The campground on Jekyll would be an excellent choice. If you are tent or RV camping, be sure to book early. Because of the popularity of the island, you will need to plan and book your reservation in advance.

Across from the campground is the Jekyll Island Pier. A popular spot for local and non-local fisherman. If you bring the kids, take them to the Summer Waves water park. There are plenty of scenic bike and walking trails to choose from in the area as well.

Explore the New Convention Center. There are places to shop and eat, or just plain relax. There is plenty of beach access for you and your family to enjoy, putt-putt golf and 18 holes of golf.

Jekyll Island Georgia is a great place with endless outdoor activites for you and your family to enjoy without the crowds!

River Street Savannah, Georgia

May 30th, 2019

Have you ever been to River Street in Savannah, Georgia? If not, the place to visit in Savannah is the Old Town. The Old Town is very historic dating back to its founding in 1733 on the Savannah River. River Street is a very popular destination with its view of the Port of Savannah and the many restaurants that are available. Also, on River Street you can take a dinner cruise on the Georgia Queen paddle boat or take a boat tour on the other tours that are offered.

While on River Street, you can dine, relax, ride on a tram, or shop for souvenirs.

As you venture away from River Street, explore the old town. Enjoy a stroll down Broughton Street or visit City Market. There are plenty of things to do.

Now for accommodations, you have choices of hotels or bed and breakfast. Make sure you stay in a hotel in the old town so you can put away the vehicle and walk. Everything is basically within walking distance and you do not want to miss an opportunity to walk in the squares and enjoy the historic architecture.

Now, if you want to get away from the town and head to the beach, visit Tybee Island. Tybee Island is about 15 to 20 minutes from the Savannah, Georgia Location and is a beautiful, popular destination for tourists and locals.

There are plenty of vendors that can guide you on things to do in Savannah, so be sure to ask any questions you may have about the area.

Tallulah Gorge State Park Georgia

May 28th, 2019

If you have never been to the mountains of Georgia, then you will want to tent or RV camp at Tallulah Gorge State Park in Georgia. My wife and I traveled to the mountains in July and August of 2018. We tent camped. Although the weather was hot during the day, we took a trip to Helen, Georgia which is about 30 minutes from the State Park and went tubing in the cool mountain springs. At night, the temperature is nice and cool with the stars in the sky shining very bright. The great thing....no biting insects at all. Not one! sat by the fire and relaxed. Not too far from the campground is Clayton, Ga..small town with quite a few restaraunts if you want to get away and find a place to eat. But don't forget to grill out....thats all part of it! There is plenty of hiking trails in the area and some parks to go swimming nearby. Great place to get away and take the family!
